Setting Up Calendars
With Timepage, we’ve eliminated a key friction point in setting up calendars. Rather than forcing you to sign in to the calendars across your various accounts, Timepage – with your permission, of course – takes your iOS accounts and drops your calendars right into the app. This enables Timepage to make changes to the calendars added at the system level, while also acting independently and overlaying our own features. All of this makes the switch from your old calendar easier – just allow Timepage to access your calendars when the app first launches and you’ll be ready to go.
How to Add a Calendar in iOS
To add a calendar in iOS, you’ll navigate to the iOS Settings app and scroll to the “Accounts & Passwords” menu. Any accounts you’ve added to iOS, including ones for email, notes, and contacts, will be featured in this panel. To verify that the calendars for these accounts are being added to Calendars, tap the appropriate account and flip the toggle to the “on” position.
Tapping “Add Account” while in this menu will walk you through the sign-in process for your iCloud, Exchange, Google, Yahoo!, AOL, Outlook.com, or custom account. After working through that service’s process, you’ll just need to verify that the Calendars toggle is set in the “on” position. This calendar will then be available in the stock Calendars app and any calendar app with your permission.
Allowing Calendar Access to Timepage
When you open Timepage for the first time, you’ll see a dialogue window asking if you’d like to allow Timepage access to your system calendars. Accepting this step is crucial – this is what will populate Timepage with the calendars you have saved to the system. If you don’t accept this, Timepage will have no way to add the events in your calendars.
If you accidentally reject this, however, there’s a simple fix. In the iOS Settings app, scroll toward the bottom until you see Timepage among your other apps. After tapping into the menu, toggle the Calendars option ON under the header “Allow Timepage to Access.” This will then relay access to your calendars to Timepage, and your events will begin populating.
Facebook Calendars
If you’d like to see your Facebook events in Timepage, there are some instructions available here about how to set them up to sync to your device.
Birthday calendars
Timepage can identify birthday calendars by searching for certain keywords in the calendars’ titles. For example, the default (English) title of a Google Mail Birthdays calendar is “Birthdays”. By identifying the birthday calendars, Timepage can then separate birthday events from others, and do clever things like hiding duplicates. If your birthday calendars are named differently (e.g. 🎂), then change the keyword in “Preferences -> Calendars” so that the app can identify the calendars.
